During Autumn 2012, RSA were approached by Ease Manage and Michael Caines to discuss the redevelopment of the Royal Clarence Hotel, a historic hotel located in the heart of Exeter on the Cathedral Green.
RSA developed proposals that were organised into 3 separate destinations, the Cafe Bar and Grill, the Champagne Rooms and Michael Caines fine dining restaurant. The key brief requirements are as follows: Increase seating and covers. Modernise the Interior with new furniture and finishes. Make internal modifications to improve the circulation with the three key environments. Extend the Champagne Bar in size. Create 3 distinct interior eating experiences whilst ensuring the spaces are identifiable as one destination. Improve the servicing of the spaces, including air conditioning, ventilation, heating and general environmental well-being. Improve and restore the building fabric. Work alongside the Statutory Authorities, including the Local Authority and their conservation officers and English Heritage to ensure the modifications to the building meet with universal approval.
The proposals were presented to Andrew Brownsword and the Abode board and the team the project is currently under review.
