Manhattan Lofts asked RSA to develop initial proposals to redevelop the building to improve the commercial operations and appearance of the Golf Club, which first opened in 1932.
The buildings appearance will be improved by cloaking the existing building in thermally efficient glazing / cladding. This will offer expansive views towards the golf course from the refurbished restaurant / bars on ground and first floor levels. The new design allows the buildings flexible spaces to facilitate different user groups. The building has two distinctly different sides. The south-west facing ‘front’ addresses the golf course and is prominent from Swan Down Road. The rear, north-east facing side of the building incorporates the driving range and course maintenance area.
The proposed extension addresses these two sides in different ways. The public side incorporates the restaurant and bar and the private side incorporates service / delivery functions.
